biostrom Energiesysteme GmbH & Co. KG plans, develops and implements biogas plants based on renewable resources up until the stage of delivering turnkey plants. The company is especially interested, along with their project development business, in forming long-term business relationships in terms of business administration management and support services for the completed plants.
Securing Site Locations
Of major significance for the project development of a biogas plant is securing the site location. However, as opposed to other projects in the field of renewable energy, such as, for example, for wind power or solar energy plants, the site location process in the field of biogas can only be viewed in conjunction with the substrates that need to be available in ready supply for the plants. For the plants to operate economically on a constant basis, the substrates need to be cultivated in the vicinity of the plant. So, before we can secure properties, we always first secure the supply of substrates under conditions that make economic sense. Once this step has been completed, property purchase agreements or long-term leasehold agreements are completed with property owners. Ideally, these properties are located close to heat customers.
Planning
In cooperation with experienced local engineering firms, biostrom Energiesysteme goes about planning the entire process, beginning with the plans for property development, from the permitting process to the connection to the public grid to handing over turnkey operations and initial start of business for the biogas plant .
connection to the power grid
The applications for connection to the power grid must be made in the course of the permit procedure and be submitted to the respective energy suppliers responsible in each instance. After the granting of a building permit, the energy supplier usually consents to the infeed and the energy-infeed contract is completed. Here, biostrom Energiesysteme takes over all the steps needed for the facility’s connection to the grid.
Building permit applications and obtaining building permits
biostrom Energiesysteme commission established engineering firms with the task of carrying out the permit planning process, which in turn compile the required expert reports and complete the application documents. The ongoing procedures with official agencies are supervised in coooperation with the engineering firms and any required additional information is supplied as quickly as possible. Depending on the German state or project location, the typical processing steps may vary and there are a number of different planning law steps that need to be considered.
Construction and placing into operation
As a company that works independently from any specific manufacturers, biostrom Energiesysteme issues contracts for the construction of biogas plants to construction companies that have become established in their market. biostrom Energiesysteme employees supervise the local construction phase on site in order to guarantee that the project advances as quickly as possible. High priority is given to selecting reliable partners that supply impeccable work. They are selected especially because of their many years of experience in their field. The time needed to construct a plant with an electrical capacity of 500 kW is approx. 4 months. After the plant has been placed into operation, it must be "powered up" in stages to allow the bacteria cultures to develop accordingly. The "power up" phase takes about three to six months.
Business Operations Management
biostrom Energiesysteme takes on business administrative management functions for biogas plants for longer periods of time. Typically, the plants are managed by the operating companies in the form of a GmbH & Co. [=limited liability company with the limited partner as the managing company]. Since one of the most important pillars of the company is the long-term business management of the plants, we place a high level of interest in that the plant is run in a manner that ensures its ideal economic efficiency. On the other hand, both the equity capital investors as well as those entities providing borrowed capital profit from this form of management as well. Because of the large number of plants that we supervise and support, we can also use this fact as a means to leverage the best terms and conditions with, for example, insurance companies, which is to the benefit of the individual operating companies.
Contract Management
The large number of agreements and contracts needed for the various stages of a project are compiled and negotiated by biostrom Energiesysteme. In doing so, emphasis is placed on developing agreements, which can be applied in practice to both parties. What this means, is that biostrom Energiesysteme is especially interested in long-term agreements. This comes into play when purchasing properties, when setting up way-leases and pipeline rights-of-way in the form of limited personal easements, agreements governing delivery of substrate and supply agreements, which are negotiated fairly at marketable and market typical terms and conditions, as well as service agreements governing plant management on site. The substrate delivery agreements are usually completed for a period of fifteen years, providing long-term assurance of the plant's supply.
Financial Management
biostrom Energiesysteme arranges all steps involved in financing the plants, beginning with the formation of the operating companies, to include the supervision of the equity capital as well as making financing available through banks in the form of borrowed capital. However, we are not an issuing house, but instead, we consider ourselves to be a competent and experienced partner in the capital market.
