Competencies PDF Print
bild_3_1biostrom Service GmbH & Co. KG is responsible for technical support services for biogas plants . Along with many years of experience in power plant technology, the company's staff also boasts exclusive expertise in biological process support and optimization of the extremely sensitive biochemical processes that take place in a biogas plant . In addition to servicing their "own" plants, the company also offers optimization services for "third-party" plants.

Technical Operations Management PDF Print
bild_3_2At the end of 2006, approximately 3,500 biogas plants were set up in Germany with an installed performance of more than 625 MW el. Experts expect the number of plants to increase yet again significantly over the next few years.

Experts assume that approx. 50% of these plants are only being operated under loads of 60% - 70% or even less, because there is a lack of both biological process support services by skilled professionals as well as the capabilities to technically monitor the plants. Furthermore, up until now, neither any standards for quality assurance nor any basic regulations have been in place, which would serve as basic principles for operating a biogas plant successfully and profitably.

With this information in mind, what becomes clear is that there will be a growing demand for companies offering support services, monitoring and maintenance of biogas plants .

biostrom Service has professionals in its employee with combined more than 30 years of experience in power plant technology. Using this experience as a firm foundation, technical maintenance systems for the combined heat and power (CHP) plants and its equipment are created. The plants are networked via online technology and thus a fast exchange of information is assured, guaranteeing that in the event of disturbances, the source is found and rectified as quickly as possible.

Long-term agreements are completed regulating plant maintenance and servicing.

Process Optimization PDF Print

Titration.jpgbiostrom Service has the necessary professional competence needed for the optimization of biological process parameters in biogas plants .

The following steps are taken:

To begin with, the plant is optimized and included in this process are all factors of influence. In doing so, great value is placed on customized adjustments suitable for the site. All of the input material (corn, grain, liquid manure and water, etc.), which is added to the fermenter, is first analyzed as to its content and harmful substances.

Once the plant has been optimized, the plant continues to be supervised by recording and monitoring all necessary control parameters remotely by means of an online monitoring system. In doing so, state of the art technology is used, which in part is made available to biostrom Service exclusively and which is protected by licenses. In addition, specific fermentation substrate analysis is carried out in certified laboratories (gewitra, Hygiene Institute) at regular intervals.

Should at any point a plant be found to range at suboptimal levels, biostrom Service's monitoring technology will recognize this and notify of the situation immediately. Because plant operators are alerted of the existence of a disturbance well in advance, the plant can quickly be returned to operation at an optimal range by introducing countermeasures. This way, costly and prolonged revenue losses can be avoided.

biostrom Service also offer process optimization as a service to third-party plant operators.

Quality Management System PDF Print

bild_3_4The integrated quality management system is made up of individual systems used to monitor the combined heat and power plant , the biogas plant , the biological process parameters, the central control technology and the business administrative computer system.

These systems are processed online over an encrypted network. All systems run independently and can only be accessed and operated through an especially designed secure dialog system. To access the system, the user must log into the system using a hardware keycard. This kind of system has up until now been in use reliably and successfully in large-scale power plant technology.

By means of a remote monitoring system, all plant data is imported and prepared to be processed in the business administration software. The same data is also imported into the technical software. While doing so, even the smallest change is recorded and, if needed, countermeasures are introduced by the monitoring system accordingly in order to prevent any damage. In the event of an alarm message, as soon as the alarm has been logged, the service employee on duty is notified by means of a text message. If the problem can be resolved by the control system itself, the measure is processed by the primary control unit. If this is not possible, the service employee will drive to the plant to resolve the problem on-site. However, first the plant will automatically be set to be at a secure plant setting.

By means of the quality management system, all necessary monitoring and service measures are planned and monitored. The system is designed to notify, which service measures need to be taken. The service is provided on-site and a service employee must provide confirmation that the service has been carried out by means of a keycard. Once all measures have been completed, any particularities are entered into the system and the quality management system processes them further. The analyzed results are transferred during the next steps to other systems through benchmarking. Setting up local laboratories makes it possible to analyze the biological process parameters in near real time. The service and operating personnel undergoes regular training. Combined heat and power plants are serviced by employees that have undergone special training.
